Principles: Electricity and other forms of energy are necessary to improve the quality of life of all citizens. Improving access to affordable energy is, therefore, a vital public good. A viable plan must address economic needs in addition to environmental concerns. In developing a better Plan, we will apply well-established scientific and engineering knowledge along with evidenced-based analyses of the LTEP and potential alternative strategies.
We have a moral obligation to future generations to not threaten air and water resources and to not destabilize global climate through unlimited release of greenhouse gasses by burning carbon-based fuels. We, along with the rest of the world, must strive to reduce carbon emissions by up to 80% by 2050. Therefore, any cost-effective technologies, systems or methods developed in Ontario to reach this goal will automatically represent export opportunities to improve the economic wellbeing of the people of Ontario in addition to helping the world meet this challenging goal.
